FDI : The Final Surrender

IN recent years I have never been as anxious as in the last three days. True colours of our type of democracy once again. If you have followed the debate on both houses of parliament even in patches, you must be amazed by some events, as

1. THE presentations for the motion, to withdraw FDI in multi brand retail were much more convincing than the defence put up by the government. BJP made clear that they are against this administrative decision of the government. Does it mean that they are sincerely against this type of FDI? If yes, why no speaker of BJP said that they would withdraw it, if they come to power?

2.  THE attitude of SP and BSP shows how selfish and double standard our MPs can be - speaking one thing but voting the other way. What deal must have taken place between them and the Congress, we don't need the services of an astrologer to find out. Even the arrogant Kapil Sibal could not defend the government, how could these parties  agree to Congress gestures?  BSP can openly side with the government as it has no fear of losing its constituency. SP has to think twice. Yet, Mayawati has again proved that it is a bigger saviour of the government than SP.

3. A Political Scientist defined democracy as One Idiot is Equal to One Genius; Two Idiots are more than One Genius. Was he wrong, because in a democracy heads are counted, not weighed? Once again, it has been shown that democracy is about numbers - not substance. Do you agree? Yet, one thing is certain. India, today, has moved to tread a new path that will change the history, geography, economy, polity etc. of the country for the years to come.
