The Coming of Age

During Emergency, I had written a poem which is relevant even today. In fact famous poet late Sh. I converted into a satire .

Anna Hazare, the Icon of Gen Y

AFTER long long times I feel pride in being Indian. I had lost faith in India's youth. I was a witness and participant in Sampoorna Kranti of Late Sh. Jai Prakash Narayan (popularly known as JP Movement). But the results of the movement were frittered away as we trusted the unscrupulous politicians. But, today's youth has people like Kiran Bedi , Arvind Kejriwal , Justice Hegde etc., who have shown the light under the overall leadership of Gandhian Anna Hazare . Even the timing of the movement is perfectly right. The government wants to introduce a toothless, clawless Lokpal bill to be made into a law. The civil society, led by the above mentioned people of integrity have proposed a Lan Lokpal Bill. About a month ago IE had carried the comparison between the two. Kejriwal has detailed the issue in April, 2011 issue of Yojana . Almost whole of media, one way or the other has highlighted the debate between the two bills. Even the opponents of Jan Lokpal bill have

Tribals Meet, Who Cares

300 tribal organisations, under the banner of Confederation of Indigenous and Tribal Peoples met in New Delhi for three days, lead by Dr. Ram Dayal Munda , the Congress member of NAC and Mr. Kanti Lal Bhuria , the Minister of Tribal Affairs. The news was covered only by the Tribune (April 2). THE meeting concluded that tribal leaders across the country are worried about extremism, conflicts, human rights violations and large-scale migration in the tribal belt of the country. The meeting also debated on the dispossession of life supporting resources - land. forest, water and culture - in the name of public interest and aggressive national development policies in the form of mining, industry, power plants, big dams, wildlife sanctuaries and military installations. DOES it make any sense? The discussions go on and on but nothing concrete happens. Does not the minister know the root cause of tribal problems? The government is simply not interested in tribal development as tribals do
